Fifty families blocked in Georgian mountains after bridge collapse

Residents of the highland region of Racha are cut off from the outside world after the river high water after downpours washed off the bridge, said Archil Djaparidze, the governor of the Racha-Lechkhumi and Kvemo Svaneti Region.

According to his version, the bridge connecting the villages of Gebi and Patara Gebi was destroyed; and until the water level in the river goes down, experts cannot start their emergency-recovery works.

"50 families have been cut off from the outside world; the necessary equipment has been mobilized; and we are waiting for the river level to come down to start the works," the "Sputnik-Georgia" quotes Mr Djaparidze as saying.
