Georgian citizen detained near South-Ossetian border

A resident of the Georgian village of Arkhisi has been detained by law enforcers near the border with South Ossetia in the vicinity of the Zemo Artsevi village, the "1tv.ge" reports today with reference to local residents.

Paata Arakelov, a resident of the Arkhisi village, was detained by Russian border guards, reports the website of the Georgian "Rustavi-2" TV Company.

Till present, no comments in connection with the incident are available from officials of the South-Ossetian authorities and the Russian border guard troops. So far, officials of the Georgian authorities have not yet commented on the situation.

Meanwhile, on July 5, on its official Facebook page, the KGB of South Ossetia posted the statistics on detentions of border violators for May and June.

"In June 2018, at various sections of the South-Ossetian border, 73 (against 35 in May) violators of the established legal regimes were detained, including 10 persons detained in the South-Ossetian-Russian sector for violation of the border regime. Of the above 73, 42 people violated the state border regime and 31 - the border regime (...). 45 people have been fined, 16 subjected to administrative fine with expulsion from the Republic of South Ossetia (RSO), 4 expelled from the RSO without fines, and 6 warned," reports the KGB of South Ossetia.

According to the KGB, the violators paid fines amounting to 131,500 roubles.
