World Cup guests tell about a peaceful atmosphere in Volgograd

Football fans, who came to Volgograd to watch the Nigeria-Iceland match, have treated the attitude to them of townspeople and opposing team's fans as friendly.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that Russia hosts the FIFA World Cup, which will last until July 15.

Nigeria won the above match in the "Volgograd-Arena" Stadium 2:0.

Prior to the match, fans of both teams, Nigeria and Iceland, gathered in the parks around the stadium and on the memorial Mamaev Kurgan (Mound).

"We have a very friendly atmosphere here; we welcome fans from other countries; they respond in the same way; it's a real holiday," Oludare Oluvashina Charles, a fan and blogger from Nigeria, told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

There were no conflict situations before the match, Nofu Timothy Oluvati Milekhin, a Nigerian cameraman, has confirmed. "We are videoing the football holiday in Volgograd; we interview fans; and there are no conflicts, no aggression, no racist insults both in Volgograd and in Moscow," he told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

The brothers Kristjan Mar and Tour Steinar, football fans from Iceland, who arrived in Volgograd on June 21 by train from Rostov-on-Don, saw no manifestations of aggression as well.

The only difficulty that the fans from Iceland faced in Russia is the language barrier, Kristjan Mar has explained. "There are few people here who speak English; thus, there were difficulties with translation; but Russians are friendly people. All problems were solved by themselves," Kristjan Mar said.
