Complaint about death of journalist Kuashev submitted to ECtHR

The cause of the death of Timur Kuashev, a journalist and activist from Kabardino-Balkaria, was not duly studied against the background of the threats received from law enforcers, Timur's parents have stated.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that Kuashev's body was found on August 1, 2014. It had a trace of some injection, but investigators claimed that the 26-year-old journalist died not from poisoning, but from an acute heart failure.

The parents of Kuashev, Khambi Kuashev and Larisa Bakueva, have stated in their complaint to the European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR) the violation of the right to life and an effective remedy prescribed by the European Convention on Human Rights (ECHR). The applicants believe that investigators failed to establish the real cause of their son's death, the Human Rights Centre (HRC) "Memorial" reports.

The parents assert that their son was healthy and went in for sports.

According to the parents, investigators did not even try to establish the link of Timur's death with the threats he had received through the LiveJournal and personally from law enforcers shortly before his death.

Timur Kuashev began seriously fearing for his life in 2013, when he was threatened on the Internet in connection with his human rights activities. On May 3, 2013, in Nalchik, he arranged a rally against law enforcers' lawlessness.
