Chair of Oirat-Kalmyk People's Congress found guilty of two offenses
Valery Badmaev, the chairman of the Oirat-Kalmyk People's Congress, accused of disobeying a policeman and violating the order of holding a rally, believes that the authorities decided to limit his activities on the eve of the September elections to the People's Khural.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that organizers of the 2nd Congress of the Oirat-Kalmyk People accused the authorities of Kalmykia of trying to disrupt the forum. At the last moment, owners of the cafe, with whom preliminary agreements were reached, refused to provide premises for the congress, and participants of the event had to gather at the monument "Exodus and Return". The congress expressed mistrust of the current leaders of the republic and decided to nominate its own candidates for delegates to the People's Khural at the September elections.
On May 24, the Elista City Court found Valery Badmaev, the editor-in-chief of the "Modern Kalmykia", who on May 19 was elected the chairman of the executive committee of the Oirat-Kalmyk People's Congress, guilty of disobeying a policeman and violating the order of holding a rally.
According to Valery Badmaev, at trial he pleaded not guilty. The chairman of the congress executive committee believes that "the demands of the policeman were not legal," since "the policeman refused to introduce himself" and appealed not to him personally, "but to all the people who had gathered at the place."
Valery Badmaev said that he would appeal to higher court instances to challenge the court's decisions and "despite everything, the executive committee of the congress would actively participate in the upcoming elections."
