Demerchyan's case closed under amnesty

Today, the court in Adler has closed the case of Mardiros Demerchyan, who was accused of stealing some cable from the construction site, and of a false denunciation against policemen; however, the court did not rehabilitate him, Yuri Marikovsky, his advocate, has stated.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that in June 2013, Mardiros Demerchyan, who was busy building Olympic facilities, came to the company, from which he had resigned, to get his salary; but directly from the construction site he was brought to the police station, where, according to his story, he was accused of cable theft and subjected to severe torture. Investigators refused to initiate a torture case; moreover, they accused Demerchyan himself of a false denunciation.

Today, at the court session, the conclusion of the court-initiated examination was announced, according to which Demerchyan was recognized sane. Then, the prosecutor proposed to close the case under an amnesty. Demerchyan agreed, and the criminal case was stopped, Mr Marikovsky told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent, adding: "The amnesty is not the ground for rehabilitation, but it was the choice of Mardiros Demerchyan himself, who was recognized sane by the examination."
