About 2000 people come to meet Khabib Nurmagomedov at Makhachkala airport

On April 9, Khabib Nurmagomedov, who won the UFC Light Heavyweight Title, arrived in Dagestan. At the Makhachkala airport, the athlete was greeted by relatives, friends, fans and representatives of the Dagestani authorities.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on April 8, after a fight with Al Iaquinta in New York, Khabib Nurmagomedov, a Russian mixed martial arts (MMA) fighter, a native of Dagestan, became the first Russian champion in the history of the UFC.

About 2000 people gathered at the Makhachkala airport to greet Khabib Nurmagomedov.

At an improvised rally, speakers congratulated Khabib Nurmagomedov on his victory and noted its importance for the country.

Magomed Magomedov, acting Minister for Physical Culture and Sports of Dagestan, has emphasized that the republic had long waited for such a victory. "The UFC champion belt is the first for our country. Mixed martial arts are quite popular in the republic, and a lot of our guys have chosen this sport for themselves. I wish every young athlete to reach the heights that Khabib has conquered," noted Saigidakhmed Akhmedov as quoted by the RIA "Dagestan".
