Ingush leader reports elimination of terrorism despite increase in number of victims

Today, Yunus-Bek Evkurov has announced that Ingushetia has managed to eliminate the hotbeds of extremism. However, according to the calculations run by the "Caucasian Knot", in 2017, the number of victims to the conflict in the republic increased by more than a quarter.

The leader of Ingushetia has voiced such a statement during the annual message to the members of the National Assembly.

"By the level of crime reduction, the republic traditionally occupies the leading positions among the regions of the country. That fact indicates that Ingushetia is one of the safest regions in Russia. For example, the crime rate per 100,000 people was 334.3 (380.8) points. For Russia, the figure is four times higher, while for the North-Caucasian Federal District (NCFD), it is twice as high," said Yunus-Bek Evkurov as quoted by the today's report posted on the official website of the Republic of Ingushetia.

According to the calculations run by the "Caucasian Knot" based on the data of own correspondents and information from other open sources, in 2017, in Ingushetia, at least 24 people fell victim to the armed conflict. This is by 26% higher than in the previous year. The number of armed incidents increased two-fold in comparison with 2016, while the number of terror acts decreased by 75%.
