Gasanguseinovs' defence states falsifications in case of killed shepherds

The case of the murder of brothers-shepherds Nabi and Gasangusein Gasanguseinov is being falsified, so that those guilty could escape punishment, the casualties' relatives and their advocates have stated at today's press conference in Makhachkala.

Nabi and Gasangusein Gasanguseinov were killed on August 24, 2016. Law enforcers declared them to be militants, who opened automatic fire at policemen. The casualties' fellow villagers demanded to punish those responsible for their murder, asserting that the brothers were shepherds and had no relation to the militants.

The press conference was held in the Makhachkala office of the Human Rights Centre (HRC) "Memorial", the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent reports.

It was attended by parents and relatives of the assassinated brothers; Murad Magomedov and Shamil Magomedov, the advocates of the HRC "Memorial"; Djambulat Gasanov, a member of the initiative group to investigate the case of the brothers' murder; and correspondents of eight mass media. Mr Gasanov and Murtazali Gasanguseinov, the casualties' father, recalled that at the meeting with the republic's public prosecutor they learned about new materials that had not been present in the case files earlier.

"During the meeting, an employee of the prosecutor's office suddenly stated that there is a conclusion of the medical and biological expertise in the case – that some genetic traces of the murdered brothers were found on the submachine guns found near the Gasanguseinov brothers," Mr Gasanov has explained.

He has emphasized that neither advocates, nor relatives had been acquainted with the results of this examination, which was held on June 14-20, 2017; there is protocol of their acquaintance with these results in the case files. Mr Gasanov is convinced that the results of the examination were falsified, and the casualties' genetic traces could get onto the guns only after their death.

The advocates of the HRC "Memorial" have suggested that the examination could be carried out "by backdating."
