Dagestani leader announces shortage of teachers in republic

Dagestan needs more than 2000 school teachers, and the lack of places in educational institutions still remains a problem, the acting Dagestani leader, Vladimir Vasiliev, has stated.

According to his story, the republic lacks more than 2000 teachers. In particular, schools need 200 teachers of the English language.

"And we are now fighting for an USE (United State Exam) and competitive diplomas. But how our diplomas can be competitive if no English lessons are taught there?" said Vladimir Vasiliev on March 15.

The acting Dagestani leader has also added that it is planned to raise the average level of teaching languages, but that "will take time," the TASS reports.

The problem with the shortage of teachers arose despite the growth of the population in the republic, noted Vladimir Vasiliev.

"We have a population growth of about 30,000 a year, which is not the case in other regions of Russia. Meanwhile, Dagestan lags behind in terms of the number of jobs and the number of places in schools: we do not have enough time to introduce a new school to reduce (shortage), since new pupils appear," the "Interfax" quotes the leader of the republic as reporting.

According to the Ministry for Public Education and Sciences of Dagestan, there are more than 40,000 teachers in the republic, and about 1500 schools with more than 380,000 pupils.
