Painter Pavlov-Andreevich holds action in support of Chechen gays

The action in support of gays of Chechnya was held by Fyodor Pavlov-Andreevich, a painter, in London, by hanging for five hours wrapped in a carpet over the pavement near the Gazelli Art House Gallery.

According to the painter, he wanted to draw attention to persecution of gays in Chechnya.

"A carpet is used for prayers, but, according to the Islamic tradition, the dead are also wrapped into it," the portal "Gay.ru" quotes Mr Pavlov-Andreevich as saying.

The BBC video of the action is posted on the YouTube. "I don't know whether this may defend the gays' rights in Chechnya; however, it surely attracts attention," said one of the passers-by.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that, according to the rating of the ILGA-Europe, the European branch of the International Association of Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, Transgender and Intersexuals, Russia and Azerbaijan are the most homophobic countries in Europe.
