Dzortova refutes Evkurov's statement about migrants' picket in Moscow

Forced migrants from Chechnya did not picket the State Duma building in Moscow, but met with an MP from Ingushetia, said Madina Dzortova, a migrant, whom Evkurov declared to be the organizer of the picket.

In 2013, authorities of Ingushetia began evicting Chechen forced migrants from temporary accommodation centres (TACs) in Karabulak, where they had lived since 1999. The court granted the administration's lawsuit and ruled to evict TAC residents by force. Some migrants, facing problems when extending their status of forced migrants and obtaining housing certificates, complained about authorities' indifference; several times they went on hunger strikes.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on February 14 the press service of the Ingushetia's Permanent Mission reported about a picket organized by forced migrants from Chechnya near the State Duma building in Moscow. The head of Ingushetia, Yunus-Bek Evkurov, demanded from his Security Council to deal with the "politicized action aimed at swinging the situation" in Ingushetia.

According to Mr Evkurov, a group of picketers in Moscow was organized by Madina Dzortova, said the statement, posted on February 14 on the website of the Ingush leader.

Today, Madina Dzortova herself told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent that the information about the picket spread by Ingush authorities has nothing to do with reality.

According to Ms Dzortova, she and two other women-migrants had a meeting in the State Duma with an MP from Ingushetia, but they held no protest actions. "Two other women and myself, forced migrants, met Alikhan Kharsiev, an MP. We held no picket at the State Duma; we had no such idea, the meeting with the MP had been scheduled in advance, "Madina Dzortova told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.
