Mikhail Saakashvili reports an attempt to detain him in Kiev

Former Georgian President Mikhail Saakashvili used Facebook to announce that a group of armed people tried to detain him when he held a meeting at a hotel in Kiev. The law enforcement bodies and the State Border Service of Ukraine rejected their involvement in the attempted detention of Mikhail Saakashvili.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on October 24, 2017, the General Prosecutor of Ukraine announced that the State Migration Service refused Mikhail Saakashvili in the refugee status. On February 5, the court of appeal upheld the decision. The defence filed a complaint. According to politician's advocates, the deportation of Mikhail Saakashvili would be illegal.

In Georgia, Mikhail Saakashvili is accused of several crimes, including embezzlement of state funds and abuse of office. The Chief Prosecutor's Office of Georgia sent a request to Ukraine for the Mikhail Saakashvili's extradition.

The former President of Georgia stays at the Fairmont Grand Hotel Kyiv, reports his supporter Yuri Derevyanko.

The "ZN.UA" reports that according to Yuri Derevyanko, when the number of the Mikhail Saakashvili's supporters grew, the people with submachine guns left the place.

"Our agents did not approach him. And we have no armed special forces. The statement looks like a provocation," stated Oleg Slobodyan, the press secretary for the chief of the State Border Service of Ukraine, as quoted by the "Interfax-Ukraine".

Earlier, Georgian political analysts have noted that the Mikhail Saakashvili's extradition would cause the disapproval of the West and mass protests in Georgia.
