Instagram blocks page of young woman dancing in hijab

At users' requests, the Instagram administration has blocked a page of a young woman who danced in hijab.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on December 11, a release of a video with a young woman dancing in hijab provoked sharp criticism in Dagestan. There were threats addressed to the young woman.

Specialists in Caucasian studies treat the reaction of Dagestani residents to the video as a manifestation of conservative. According to political analysts Alexei Malashenko and Akhmet Yarlykapov, criticism against the video is associated with the Dagestani residents' adherence to their traditions. The young woman faces real danger, noted rights defender Svetlana Gannushkina.

"The joint efforts of the Caucasian society resulted in the blocking of the Malika Djikaeva's page," the administrator of the Dagestani public "narod.dagestana" wrote.

There is also a video message of the scandalous dancer in hijab. In the video, she shows a pile of banknotes, says she has raised enough money to unblock her account, and also dances under modern music.
