More than 12,000 tourists visit Chechnya for New Year holidays

In Grozny, the New Year tree celebrations gathered more tourists than local residents, city residents reported.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that in late 2017, the authorities of Chechnya reported on the growth of the number of tourists in the region. The Committee for Tourism at the government of the Chechen Republic forecasted that about 8000 tourists would visit Chechnya for the New Year holidays.

According to the Chechen Committee for Tourism, "the real figures were significantly higher than expected."

"During the New Year holidays, the republic was visited by more than 12,000 tourists. Guests showed special interest in the complex of high-rise buildings "Grozny-City", sports and tourist complexes" Nikhaloi Waterfalls" in the Shatoi District and "Kezenoi-Am" in the Vedeno District, as well as to the sanatorium "Sernovodsk-Kavkazsky" in the Sunzha District of the republic. Large groups of tourists also visited the square with the New Year tree in the centre of the city," reported a member of the Committee for Tourism.

"Most of all I was surprised by the fact that in addition to local residents, there were quite a lot of tourists, mostly young people and couples," noted Rasul, a resident of the republic.

In Chechnya, there are 18 tourist routes. Two of them water and bicycle tourist routes were opened in June 2016. There are also hiking and horse routes in the Vedeno and Cheberloi Districts and 14 automobile routes.
