In Georgia, number of foreign tourists increased in 2017 by almost 28%
The number of foreign tourists, who visited Georgia, has increased by 764,000 in comparison with 2016.
The total number of foreigners who visited Georgia in 2017 exceeded 7.5 million, and that is 18.8% higher than in 2016. According to the National Tourism Administration, guests from abroad who stay in Georgia during a day or more are considered to be tourists. In 2017, the number of tourists reached more than 3.478 million people against 2.714 million in 2016. The growth was 27.9%, reported Giorgi Chogovadze, the head of the National Tourism Administration, on January 5.
In 2017, Georgia was most often visited by people from Armenia, Azerbaijan, and Russia, and the number of visitors from those three countries increased significantly during the year. The number of citizens of Armenia who visited Georgia increased by 14.8%, of Azerbaijan by 11.2%, and of Russia by 34.1%, the "News-Georgia" reports with reference to Giorgi Chogovadze.
