CEC refuses to register Aina Gamzatova as presidential candidate
Today, the Russia's Central Election Commission (CEC) has refused to register a group of voters who have nominated Aina Gamzatova, referring to a lack of documents, the RIA "Novosti" reports.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on January 1, 2018, the CEC began considering the documents of Aina Gamzatova, the wife of the Mufti of Dagestan, who on December 25, 2017, notified the CEC about self-nomination of her candidacy for the presidential election.
Evgeny Shevchenko, a CEC member, has explained that the voters' meeting in support of Gamzatova's self-nomination took place on December 29, 2017, in Makhachkala; however, a notification about the meeting was sent to the CEC on December 25, 2017, that is, by violation of the five-day period established by the law. Also, according to his story, Aina Gamzatova failed to provide the CEC with information about major expenses for herself, her spouse and minor children; while the petition for registration of the voters' group contains no data on the places of work of 327 signatories, the TASS reports.
