Armenian students go on hunger strike
Today, two members of the initiative group "For Development of Science" have started a protest against the limitation of the army service postponement for students.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on November 15, the Armenian Parliament adopted a law to significantly change the principle of granting an academic postponement from the army service. Starting from November 7, students went on strike against the law, and on the day of its adoption, they blocked the avenue near the parliament building in protest.
Today, David Petrosyan and Yura Avagyan, two members of the initiative group "For Development of Science", went on hunger strike. Students conduct their protest action in a lecture room for the Physics Department of the Yerevan State University. The activists locked themselves in the lecture room and stay in contact with people through social networks.
On his Facebook page, David Petrosyan has posted a video message in which he notes that "negotiations with the authorities that began a month ago have not yield any results."
According to the activist, the students are on their hunger strike with the demand to maintain the academic postponement from the army service in the form it used to be prior to the amendments to the law.
