Soldiers and officers return to Dagestan from Syria

The personnel of the military police battalion of the Southern Military District, engaged in performing tasks in Syria, arrived in the airport of Makhachkala, the Russian Ministry of Defence (MoD) reported.

According to the Russian MoD, in December 2016, the Russian military police units were sent to Syria to maintain security in the de-escalation zones. On December 11, at the Khmeimim airbase, President Vladimir Putin ordered to withdraw from Syria a Russian military unit.

The military unit controlled the ceasefire regime in Syria, ensured the safety of civilians in the course of humanitarian actions and accompanied humanitarian convoys, the Russian MoD's website reports.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on November 13, the leader of Dagestan announced the return of soldiers and officers from Syria to the republic.
