Tbilisi City Court arrests person accused of terrorism

Today, the man detained during the special operation in Tbilisi has been arrested for the period of the inquiry. His defence intends to appeal against the court judgement, Imed Karkashadze, a detainee's advocate, has stated.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that the special operation in Tbilisi continued from the evening of November 21 until the evening of November 22. In the course of the shootout, one special troop's fighter was killed, and four others were wounded. Three suspected militants were killed, and one was detained.

According to the Prosecutor's Office, the man accused of terrorism was detained on November 21 in Tbilisi on the basis of operative information; his identity is not disclosed, only the initials: S.D.

According to the advocate, his client refuses to plead guilty, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent reports, referring to the "Public Broadcaster".

"Yes, he's been arrested; the next court session will take place on January 16," the" Sputnik-Georgia" quotes Mr Karkashadze as saying today.

He has added that he intends to appeal against the judgement.

According to the Prosecutor's Office, "investigators have established that S.D. had settled, together with his three accomplices, in one of the residential apartments in Tbilisi, where they illegally kept a large amount of explosives, ammunition, explosive devices and firearms," the "InterPressNews" reports.
