Politicians announce signing EU-Armenia agreement

On November 24, at the upcoming Eastern Partnership summit in Brussels, Armenia and the European Union (EU) plan to sign a new agreement, Armen Ashotyan, Deputy Chairman of the Republican Party, has stated. The new agreement does not contradict the Armenia's obligations to the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU), said Edmon Marukyan, an MP. The agreement has a clause on liquidation of natural monopolies; and Russian companies may dislike it, an expert Ovannes Itigyan has suggested.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that Armenia, despite its membership in the EAEU, is actively cooperating with the EU.

Armenia and the EU will sign a new framework agreement, said Armen Ashotyan, who is also the head of the parliamentary commission on foreign relations. He noted that the significance of the document is political, since it reflects the Europe's approach to the settlement of the Karabakh conflict.

The new agreement does not contradict the Armenia's obligations within the EAEU, said Edmon Marukyan, an MP from the "Elk" oppositional faction.

Meanwhile, Arthur Kazinyan, Director of the Centre for European Studies at the Yerevan State University, sees no special prospects in the agreement with the EU.
