Rostov fire victims not allowed restoring their houses

No permits will be issued for restoration of houses burnt as a result of a fire which occurred in Rostov-on-Don in August, and land plots will be purchased under the "voluntarily and compulsory" procedure. This has been stated by City Mayor Vitaly Kushnaryov at a meeting with the fire victims.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on August 21 and 22, a quarter of residential houses were burnt in the Proletarsky District of Rostov-on-Don. One local resident died, and seven others were hospitalized.

In case if a house is found unfit for living, its tenants will be included in the list of people to be granted subsidies for housing, announced Vitaly Kushnaryov, Mayor of Rostov-on-Don, as quoted by the "Kommersant" on October 22.

"The houses… are not to be restored, and we will not issue permits for the restoration, since that territory is not intended for housing construction," the City Mayor has said.

In this December, the authorities will start granting subsidies for housing, but not all the fire victims will be eligible for the subsidies, said Alexander Ischenko, the chairman of the Legislative Assembly of the Rostov Region, at a meeting with the fire victims. According to him, to get subsidies, the fire victims are to meet three conditions: they have no other housing, but permanently reside and are registered at the address where the fire occurred.

Let us remind you that according to rescuers, the disaster was likely caused by an extraneous source of fire. The victims believe the fire was arranged by "black realtors" who planned a construction of a multi-storey residential complex in the area.
