Activists vote for a "sheep" at election of Telavi Mayor

In the city of Telavi in the Kakheti region, civil activists have spoiled ballots in protest against the deprivation of the town of its self-government status. The activists wrote a word "sheep" on the ballots.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on October 21, residents of Georgia elected heads of 64 cities and districts, as well as 2058 deputies of 64 Sacrebulos (city councils). According to the preliminary information released by the Central Election Commission (CEC), the ruling "Georgian Dream" Party was in the lead. The opposition did not recognize the results of the elections in Georgia. On the voting day, the CEC received 204 complaints.

In Telavi, the civil activists have expressed their protest against the decision to deprive the city of its self-government status and spoiled their ballots by writing a word "sheep" under the lists of candidates for the Mayor of the district and Sakrebulo members, the "Interfax" reported on October 22.

It is not specified how many ballots were spoiled in that way, the "Gazeta.ru" reports.

This summer, the city of Telavi was deprived of its self-government status. Georgian NGOs opposed the authorities' initiative.
