Chechen law enforcers detain father of fled National Guard regiment commander

The detention of the father of a regiment commander from the National Guard of Russia (aka as "Natsgvardia") in Chechnya, dismissed for withholding money from his subordinates' salaries, may be a way to put pressure on the escapee. This was stated by a family friend.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported with reference to a source from the law enforcement agencies that in Chechnya, a regiment commander from the National Guard of Russia was beaten and dismissed after his subordinates complained of deductions from their salaries.

According to the family friend's story, the former regiment commander has escaped. The source has also added that the whereabouts of the detainee is unknown. According to the family friend's version, the detention is likely a way to put pressure on the disappeared man and the law enforcement agencies use this way to force the former regiment commander to return home.

Employees of the Chechen law enforcement agencies confirm that commanders withhold money from their subordinates' salaries.

"As a rule, money is withheld when salaries are paid. An employee signs in a salary sheet for receiving a certain amount, but gets much less in his hands," said Ibragim, a former officer of the Chechen Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA).

According to him, the same scheme was used in the regiment of the National Guard of Russia, where the commander was beaten. "However, this time the commander wanted to withhold almost all the money from his fighters' salaries for a month and thus a scandal was provoked," the former MIA's officer explained.
