Court finds three KBR’s residents to be IS militants

The North-Caucasian District Military Court has sentenced Islam Efendiev, Rustan Buttaev and Islam Osmanov, residents of the Kabardino-Balkarian Republic (KBR), to long prison terms. The defence has declared their innocence.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that investigators had accused the men of involvement in the KBR’s unit of the terrorist organization "Islamic State" (IS) banned in Russia; the unit was organized by Robert Zankishiev.

Robert Zankishiev had been suspected of involvement in an illegal armed formation (IAF) and was killed on November 10, 2015, in a special operation conducted in Nalchik.

Today, the court has found the above three men guilty of involvement in the IAF and illegal dealing with weapons, explosives and narcotic substances.

"At the trial stage, they declared that their confessions had been obtained by power agents by means of torture," said Vladimir Gladkov, an advocate.
