North Ossetia: power agents deny links of shelling police post with CTO

The attacks on policemen in the Mozdok District and the militants’ killing during the counterterrorist operation (CTO) conducted on September 6 near the village of Chmi are not interconnected, said an officer of the North-Ossetian Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA).

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that tonight at the entrance to the dwelling settlement of Kalininsky, a police post was shelled. Three policemen were wounded; the attackers escaped.

On September 6, in the vicinity of Vladikavkaz, power agents killed three men; later, in a shootout, another one was shot dead – according to power agents, he was involved in the “Islamic State” (IS), a terrorist organization banned in Russia.

The MIA source has explained that Kalininsky and Chmi are at least 150 kilometres off; and "the CTO and the attack on policemen happened in the two extreme points of North Ossetia."

Besides, on September 6, the militants were killed, who tried to cross, via the Suargom Gorge, the Russian-Georgian border.

"Criminals’ actions in these cases are different; as well as their motifs," the source has explained.

The shelling of policemen was the 2017 second major armed incident in Kalininsky.

However, according to the "Caucasian Knot", there were no victims of armed conflicts in North Ossetia in the first half of 2017.
