Grozny rally in support of Myanmar Muslims ends with appeal to President Putin

An appeal to the President of Russia adopted at a rally in Grozny contains a call for intervention in the situation in Myanmar. The authorities reported about a million of people who took part in the rally, and Grozny residents complained about traffic jams in the city.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that today, in Grozny, schools cancelled classes on the occasion of a rally in support of Muslims in Myanmar. People came to the action with posters in Russian and English. Chechen leader Ramzan Kadyrov condemned the world community's inaction in connection with the persecution of Muslims in Myanmar.

The situation in Myanmar deteriorated in late August, when clashes started to occur between Buddhists and Muslims of the Rohingya people. More than 400 people were killed, and at least 18,500 Muslims fled to Bangladesh.

At the end of the rally, in the square in front of the mosque "Heart of Chechnya", the protestors burned the posters with portraits of Ashin Wirathu, the leader of Myanmar Buddhists.

According to officials from the Grozny Mayor's Office, in their appeal to the Russian President, the rally participants called the events in Myanmar the genocide of Muslims.

The rally was held with enhanced security measures. The hot weather became a big problem for the protesters, since in Grozny, the air temperature rose to 35 degrees Celsius.

Besides, residents of Grozny also reported about the problems with the movement around the city because of the rally.
