Rovshan Gadirov convicted for links with Syrian militants

The Baku Court of Grave Crimes has sentenced Rovshan Gadirov, an Azerbaijani resident, to ten years in prison, finding him to be a member of illegal armed formations (IAFs) in Pakistan and Syria. His advocate claims that no evidence of Gadirov's guilt was presented and intends to appeal against the verdict.

Gadirov denied the charges and stated that he was engaged in delivery of humanitarian aid to Arab countries and cooperated with the "Turkish Society for Humanitarian Aid."

Adem Mamedov, his advocate, has stated that during preliminary investigation his client gave confessions under psychological pressure. He has treated the verdict as "very harsh" and intends to appeal against it.
