Anazor Arslanuk avoids deportation to Syria

Student Anazor Arslanuk left the detention centre for foreign citizens and stateless persons in the Krasnodar Territory and went to Abkhazia. He managed to avoid deportation to Syria due to obtaining the citizenship of Abkhazia. This was reported by his advocate.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that the Adler District Court decided to deport Anazor Arslanuk. Tamara Stas, the mother of the young man, a resident of Syria, appealed to the Russian President for help.

In early July, the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) explained that Anazor Arslanuk had no documents to confirm his Russian citizenship.

Anazor Arslanuk has said that he will "live and work in Abkhazia and also seek the restoration of his Russian citizenship."

Advocate Oksana Trenbatch believes that "Anazor Arslanuk has a great chance for restoration of his Russian citizenship, since most of the residents of Abkhazia are Russian citizens."

On June 21, the citizenship of Abkhazia was granted to Anazor Arslanuk upon his application and after the appeal of the Circassian public organizations of Russia to the President of Abkhazia. This was announced by Askar Sokht, the deputy chairman of the public organization "Adyge-Khase" of the Krasnodar Territory.
