Opposition criticizes Georgia's European Integration Ministry

On July 20, at a sitting of the parliamentary committees on European integration and international relations, Victor Dolidze, the Georgia's State Minister for European Integration, presented his report for the first half of 2017.

"We've achieved two serious results – both in political association with Europe, and in economic integration, that is, visa liberalization and full membership in the energy association," Mr Dolidze stated.

However, the MPs – members of oppositional parties – criticized the govt's actions. The issue of Georgia's territorial integrity was not put on the international agenda; and the authorities also failed to raise the issue of imposing sanctions against Russia in connection with its recognition of independence of Abkhazia and South Ossetia, they have stated.

In particular, Salome Samadashvili, an MP from the opposition "United National Movement" (UNM) Party, who asked about sanctions and received no Dolidze's answer, accused the state minister of his "unpreparedness" to meet the MPs.

"I got no answer to my question; you are not prepared to go to parliament, if you can't answer, then don't come here," Ms Samadashvili told the state minister.
