Animal rights defenders claim new wave of violence against animals in Dagestan

In Khasavyurt, activists from the animal rights organization "Zoohelp" have reported that dogs of which they care were attacked. The attackers broke open all the doors in a pen, killed one dog and beat up six others. This was reported by the animal rights defenders.

"The animals were beaten with a stool and a cinder block. We found those items at the place, and they bore signs of animal blood," the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was told by Sabina, an activist of the NGO.

The pen is located in a yard of a private house, rented by the activists. This was reported by Maria Yaroslavtseva, the leader of the "Zoohelp". She believes that the attack on animals could be committed by one of the neighbours, dissatisfied with the fact that the pen was next to them. However, the claims were unfounded, since the animals behaved calmly, and the pen was kept clean, Maria Yaroslavtseva reported.

According to her, the attackers killed a disabled dog, which was unable to move. The other animals will be taken to Makhachkala to a veterinary.

The animal rights defenders have added that they will not go to the police.

Earlier, residents of Dagestan have claimed a burst of violence against animals after the death of a nine-year schoolgirl in February.
