Yerevan opens "Golden Apricot-2017" film festival

In the Armenian capital, the 14th International "Golden Apricot" film festival has been opened with the traditional ceremony of consecration of apricots at the St. Anne's Church. This year, the festival contest programmes list 47 films.

The film festival will be held in the period from July 9 to July 16. Four festival out-of-contest programmes will present more than 70 films directed by Armenian and foreign filmmakers, including the films, which won the Cannes, Berlin and Venice film festivals. The festival contest programmes include 47 films in three categories: "International Live Action Films", "International Documentary Films", and "Armenian Panorama".

Before the solemn opening of the "Golden Apricot" film festival, a priest held a liturgy and then consecrated apricots which were distributed to believers in the church and passers-by.

Prior to the official opening of the "Golden Apricot" film festival, there was a ceremony to open star symbols named after well-known Armenian cinema figures, including Frunze Dovlatyan, Yuri Erzinkyan, and Sergey Israelyan.
