Lawyer Rustam Yunusov arrested

A Makhachkala court has ruled to place the lawyer Rustam Yunusov, suspected of an attempted fraud, into custody. He refused to plead guilty; and the advocate Musa Abdulkadirov, who is defending Yunusov's interests, promised to appeal against the ruling.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on June 10, it became known that Rustam Yunusov was detained on June 8 in connection with the case against some third person. He was released without charging, but on June 22, he was again detained, and on June 23, the Sovietsky District Court of Makhachkala ruled to restrain his freedom by placing him into custody, Musa Abdulkadirov told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent, adding that Yunusov is suspected of an attempted fraud through the abuse of his official position.

"Rustam Yunusov refuses to plead guilty; and we intend to appeal against his detention in the near future," said Abdulkadirov.

According to investigators, Yunusov is suspected that in April 2017, while being an advocate of a local resident, he misled his client, stating that in order to stop his criminal case, he should deliver 600,000 roubles to the officials of the investigating division for the city of Khasavyurt of the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA).
