Sentence to native of Dagestan, who tried to join militants, appealed against

The defence of Abdusalam Ramazanov, a native of the Tsuntin District of Dagestan, sentences to six years in prison for an attempt to join militants in Syria, has challenged the verdict of the North-Caucasian District Military Court, said the advocate Elena Denisenko.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that Ramazanov was found guilty on April 12. He stated his innocence and that he was tortured after being detained at the airport. However, the above Court refused to open a case on the alleged torture.

The challenge will be considered by the next instance – the Judicial Collegium on Servicemen’s Cases of the Supreme Court of the Russian Federation.

"In our complaint against the verdict, I stressed that the only key witness who was questioned in the Garrison Court of Makhachkala, did not say anything himself, but only answered the questions asked by the state prosecutor," said the advocate.
