Smyshliaev states his refusal to meet Panov after his statement about preparation of the terror act

At the trial on the case of preparing a terror act in Rostov-on-Don, the defendant Maxim Smyshliaev has stated that he had interrupted all contacts with the second defendant, a Ukrainian citizen Arthur Panov, after their personal meeting. According to Smyshliaev, most of the talk was on the life in the Lugansk People’s Republic (the so-called LNR); and after a statement about plans to arrange a terror act, he stopped talking to his counterpart.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that Arthur Panov, a resident of the city of Krasnodon of the Lugansk Region of Ukraine, was accused of preparing a terror act in Rostov-on-Don using an improvised explosive device (IED); while Maxim Smyshliaev, 34, a historian, a resident of Rostov-on-Don, was charged with complicity to it. On March 7, due to changes in the composition of the panel of judges, the consideration of the case was re-opened. According to the indictment, the defendants had intended to blow up the “O'Kay” hypermarket.

At Panov's request, a list of law enforcers who were "involved in various violations against him" was added to the case files.

He also stated a repeated petition asking to put him in the courtroom outside the "aquarium" (a glass cage).

Panov also stated his poor health condition and problems with his spinal column.

In his interrogation protocol of May 20, 2016, Smyshliaev stated that he adhered to "leftist, Marxist-Leninist views, but without violence, including in the struggle against the authorities."
