In Yerevan, activists demand resignations of Ministers of Justice and Public Health

In Yerevan, a march of city residents on protest after the death of activist Arthur Sargsyan has finished with appeals to punish the heads of departments that contributed to his long stay in custody.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that today, Arthur Sargsyan, who during 25 days has been on hunger strike with a demand to release him from custody, has died in the hospital. Arthur Sargsyan was prosecuted for breaking through the police cordon in July 2016 and handing over food to the armed oppositionists who were holding the building of the police regiment. After the news about his death, about 100 Yerevan residents organized a protest march.

The protesters believe that there is a fault of the General Prosecutor's Office in the death of Arthur Sargsyan, since prosecutors delayed the decision to release him from custody.

The activists were carrying a symbolic loaf of bread, tied with a black ribbon, and they intended to leave it in front of the building of the Ministry of Justice (MoJ). However, the police did not let the protestors to approach the MoJ's building.

After their arrival to Freedom Square, the activists demanded the resignation of Arpine Ogannesyan, Minister of Justice, and Levon Altunyan, Minister for Public Health of the country.
