Sochi residents demand to stop building 12-storey building in resort centre

A rally in Sochi has demanded to stop erecting a high-rise building on the place of a two-story one. A petition with a demand to preserve the favourable habitat was signed by 300 people, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent reports.

The rally on March 11 was attended by tenants of houses located in the area of Vorovsky and Ostrovsky Streets. Their indignation was caused by builders’ actions, who began installing a fence in the green zone.

Also, the entrepreneurs, who received orders to demolish their pavilions, have stated violations of their rights.

"I treat as disgrace an attempt to demolish this house. This means to deprive us, invalids, of the premise... This is the city centre; there are no parking spaces already, no fresh air, no sidewalks, in fact there is no living space," said Pavel Zhestovsky, the head of the Society of Disabled People of Sochi.
