Dagestani authorities urge cinema owners to use self-censorship

In Dagestan, "immoral films" should not be screened, says the appeal of Magomed Abdurakhmanov, the head of the Dagestani Committee on Freedom of Conscience and Interaction with Religious Organizations, addressed to owners of movie theatres.

The owners should be aware of their responsibility for the spiritual education of young people; they should formulate their "in-house ethical code that regulates film screening for general public," says the Abdurakhmanov's appeal circulated by the press service of the above Committee.

"This appeal is not an attempt to impose some attitude; it is rather a request to cinema owners to make use of their self-control, practice self-censorship and stop screening films that undermine the moral foundation of our society," the "Interfax-Religion" quotes the appeal today.

The appeal is also actively spread in the Islamic segment of the Runet – on websites and groups in social networks, dedicated to Islam.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that Dagestan had repeatedly spread appeals to protect people from the culture phenomena, which come into conflict with the traditional values. In February 2015, local officials called for boycotting the screening of the movie based on the erotic novel "Fifty Shades of Grey". In June 2016, in Kaspiysk, a poster was released about the sinfulness of listening music; and in August 2016, social networks posted threats of murder addressed to those who intended to visit the Holi Festival of Colours.
