In Sochi, events in memory of fallen defenders of Fatherland gather about 1500 people

On February 23, more than 1000 people came to the Zavokzalny District to lay flowers at the memorial to soldiers who died in World War II. About 500 city residents attended the memorial in the residential district of New Sochi and the mass grave in the old cemetery in Dagomys Street, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent reports.

Many Sochi residents call this day the "Day of the Soviet Army" by habit.

Some citizens have noted they do not see the difference between the Day of the Soviet Army and Navy and the Defender of the Fatherland Day.

On February 23, a solemn rally took place at the memorial in Sevastopol Street. Sochi Mayor Anatoly Pakhomov thanked veterans of World War II and noted that they "fulfilled their duty with honour."
