Wife of defendant in “Caliphate case” rejects accusations against her husband
In December 2013, Islam Shogenov, a defendant in the case of an attempt to create Caliphate in the Kabardino-Balkarian Republic (KBR), was busy studying, when, according to prosecutors, he was shadowing the police officer, who was later attacked, said the wife of Islam Shogenov. Same as earlier his mother and aunt, she pointed to violations at the search of their apartment.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that the case against 10 KBR residents is considered by the North-Caucasian District Military Court of Rostov-on-Don since August 2016. On January 27, Shogenov’s classmates confirmed his alibi.
On February 7, the court continued questioning witnesses. Ekaterina Shogenova, Islam’s wife, told about the search, conducted on January 11, 2014, of the apartment, where she lived with her husband. According to her story, no suspicious items – weapons, drugs, "non-standard literature" and big bags – were found.
According to Ekaterina, Islam studied at the Informatics Department; and in December 2013, every weekday they went to the lessons.
She added that their wedding was secular, and she did not see any of other defendants at the wedding party, and did not know their names.
According to Shogenov’s advocate, the wife’s testimony runs counter the prosecution, which states that the man "throughout December 2013 was tracing the routes of Police Colonel Arthur Tembotov, in particular, under the pretext of preparing for the wedding."
