In Shelkovsky District of Chechnya, suspected members of IS released
The young men, detained on January 31 in the Shelkovsky District of Chechnya on suspicion of trying to leave for Syria to join the ranks of militants, stayed at a police station for three days. They were released for the time of preliminary investigation. This was reported by a source from the law enforcement bodies.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on January 31, in the Shelkovsky District, law enforcers detained seven local residents, who, according to law enforcers, intended to leave for Syria to join the terrorist organization "Islamic State" (IS). On February 3, a source from the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) said that the detainees were planning to kill policemen.
A local resident was declared to be the leader of the grouping. According to law enforcers, he has already come to the attention of the police when he was planning to leave for Syria, but gave up his plans after prevention activities of the police. It turned out that he continued to keep in touch with the militants in Syria and recruited his acquaintances to join the IS.
On February 2, all the detainees were released. This was reported by a relative of one of the young men. According to him, "law enforcers have no clear charges against them."
The source has also added that nothing forbidden, including weapons and ammunition, has been seized from the young men.
According to another local resident, whose nephew was among those detainees, local policemen treated the detainees quite friendly.
"However, there was a group of law enforcers from Grozny, and they voiced threats, abused detainees, and called them Wahhabis to be destroyed," said the man.
