Russian museums present ecological projects in Derbent
Representatives of 10 Russian cities took part in the project seminar "Museum and Communities" held in the city of Derbent.
The participants from Makhachkala presented the project "Ancient Path", aimed at forming teams for planting trees next to cultural heritage objects.
Georgy Garunov, the author of the project, told at the presentation that the idea appeared after communication with residents of Derbent, which accented the problem of felling trees in the city and the deficit of green spaces.
"In the course of preparations for the celebrations of the 2000th anniversary of Derbent, they cut down a huge number of trees; and this project was born after conversations with townspeople," said Mr Garunov.
Another eco project was presented by the team of the GunibLocalLoreMuseum. The project "Imperial Meadow" aims to create a museum cluster and special tourists' recreation areas in the territory of the natural monument "Gunib Plateau", a team member said at the presentation.
According to his story, museum workers have faced the absence of environmentally responsible behaviour by tourists in the territory of the natural monument. "The aim of the project is to change the attitude both of tourists and locals to the natural reserve," he said.
