Maxim Shevchenko announces name of new Dagestani leader
According to unofficial information, Sergey Chenchik, the head of the Chief Headquarters of the Russian Guard, can replace Ramazan Abdulatipov as the leader of Dagestan. This was announced by journalist Maxim Shevchenko, a member of the Russian Presidential Council on Civil Society and Human Rights.
"There is interesting information from very reliable sources about possible appointment of Colonel-General Sergey Chenchik, the former chief of the Department for the North-Caucasian Federal District (NCFD) of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA), the acting head of Dagestan," wrote on his Facebook page on January 15 journalist Maxim Shevchenko, a member of the Russian Presidential Council on Civil Society and Human Rights.
Maxim Shevchenko suggests that in case if Sergey Chenchik heads Dagestan, then his appointment will be followed by "full sweep of Islamic civil society, closure of mosques, terror and death squads, ... tyranny of agencies of the MIA and the Russian Guard, from which people will not find any protection in the republic or in Moscow".
A spokesman of the press service of the Russian Guard has refused to comment on the statement voiced by Maxim Shevchenko and explained that he had no information about the upcoming appointment.
