ECtHR accepts Trunov's complaint about non-admission to State Duma elections

The European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR) has accepted the complaint of the lawyer Igor Trunov against the refusal of the Central Election Commission (CEC) to admit him to the State Duma elections.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that Igor Trunov is well-known for his defence of the interests of victims of terror acts committed in Domodedovo Airport in 2011, the Moscow metro in 2004, the Dubrovka Theatre Centre in 2002, and of the explosion of the high-rise house in Moscow's Kashira Highway in 1999. He also defended the rights of the victims in the case of the death of Sergey Bodrov and his filming team in Karmadon Gorge in 2002. Besides, Igor Trunov represents the interests of the victims of the aircraft crash in Rostov-on-Don in March 2016.

The lawyer had intended to run for the State Duma in the Moscow single-mandate constituency as a nominee of the Russian Party of Pensioners for Justice (RPPJ), the RAPSI reports.

As reported by the website of the Bar Association "Trunov, Aivar and Partners", the lawyer asks the ECtHR to collect compensation in favour of Trunov in the amount of 100,000 euros. Earlier, his claim was rejected by the Russian Supreme Court.
