Azerbaijani activist Bairam Mamedov sentenced to 10 years in prison

Today, the Baku Court of Grave Crimes has found Bairam Mamedov, an activist of the movement "Nida", guilty of drug trafficking on a large scale and sentenced him to 10 years of imprisonment.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on May 10, law enforcers detained Giyas Ibragimov, a Facebook user, and Bairam Mamedov, an activist of the movement "Nida" (Exclamation). The young people claim that they are being prosecuted for graffiti on the pedestal of the monument to Geidar Aliev. On December 2, public prosecutor asked the court to sentence Bairam Mamedov to 10.5 years of imprisonment.

Let us remind you that the names of Giyas Ibragimov, on October 25 sentenced to 10 years of imprisonment, and Bairam Mamedov are included in the list of political prisoners, released by Azerbaijani human rights defenders on October 17. The "Amnesty International" (AI) has recognized both men as the "prisoners of conscience".
