Volgograd ecologists criticize Centre for Monitoring of Environmental Quality

In the evening of December 1, residents of the cottage village near Tulak Street in the city of Volgograd have reported on strong smell of hydrogen sulphide. According to ecologist Irina Glinyanova, who also lives in the cottage village, at about 7:00 p.m., she reported about the problem to the urban environmental service. However, after half an hour, according to Irina Glinyanova, she noticed no experts coming to the place.

The ecologist does not rule out that hydrogen sulphide could be discharged by one of the chemical plants of the southern industrial hub of the city.

"I do not understand what for this Centre for analytical and operational monitoring of environmental quality has been organized. If they come to calls - they come too late, when the wind withdrew all emissions. It is clear that maximum permissible concentrations are not exceeded then. Here, we talk of hydrogen sulphide, a dangerous gas. The reaction should be immediate, since it concerns people's lives," Irina Glinyanova told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

According to the ecologist, on December 2, she filed a complaint to the Prosecutor's Office of the Volgograd Region about inaction of the urban environmental service.
