Wife of Chechen native confirms Dadin’s story about torture in IK-7

Anzor Mamaev, a native of Chechnya, was beaten up in Colony No. 7 (known as IK-7), located in the town of Segezh, after his meeting with the Russia’s Ombudsperson Tatiana Moskalkova, Kameta Saidullaeva, Mamaev’s wife reported on November 28. Her statement came after the information of the Federal Penitentiary Service (known as FSIN) that facts of torture in the colony were not confirmed.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on November 7 and 8, the natives of Chechnya Anzor Mamaev and Khazbulat Gabzaev, kept in IK-7 in Segezh, were interviewed about the use of violence against them by the members of the Human Rights Council (HRC), who checked the complaint lodged by the convict Ildar Dadin about torture and beatings. According to HRC members, "they were convinced that the complaints were justified." Before that, on November 1, Anastasia Zotova, the wife of Ildar Dadin, the Russia's first convict for repeated violation of the order of holding public events, stated that her husband had been beaten up and tortured.

Anzor Mamaev, according to rights defenders, has been actively cooperated with them after the death in the Chelyabinsk colony of the 39-year-old Sultan Israilov, a native of Chechnya. According to the official version, Israilov had committed suicide, but his family and rights defenders had doubts.

On November 28, at the Sakharov Centre in Moscow, relatives of inmates of IK-7 confirmed Ildar Dadin’s statements about beatings and torture.

The wife of Anzor Mamaev, one of inmates of IK-7, was among those present at the Sakharov Centre. She reported that she could see her husband in September, and confirmed his beatings.

"He was beaten up terribly – for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Because of what happened in this colony, it now attracts a lot of attention. Ms Moskalkova visited my husband, but immediately after she left, she was once again terribly beaten," said the woman, who is quoted in the material about the meeting at the Sakharov Centre posted on the website of "Radio Liberty".
