Court tightens detention conditions for Igor Stenin

By its decision of November 28, the Kirsanov District Court of the Tambov Region has transferred Igor Stenin from a penal settlement-colony to a common-security penal colony.

At present, the "Caucasian Knot" has no information about the whereabouts of Igor Stenin.

Igor Stenin was sentenced to two years of imprisonment in a settlement-colony for his repost in the social network "VKontakte" of an article about the war in Ukraine, recognized as extremist material. Igor Stenin pleaded not guilty. His defence insisted that the activist did not repost any article, but it was a comment left by another user. However, the court refused to request explanations from the administration of the social network "VKontakte".

The Human Rights Centre (HRC) "Memorial" has treated the prosecution against Igor Stenin politically motivated. According to human rights defenders, investigators, prosecutors, and judge "showed extreme level of bias and partiality." Meanwhile, the time human rights defenders emphasized that their position on the case does not mean their consent with the defendant's views.
