Austrian authorities satisfy request to extradite Aslan Gagiev

The Land Court of Vienna has for the third time satisfied the request of the General Prosecutor's Office (GPO) of the Russian Federation to extradite Aslan Gagiev, suspected of organizing a series of murders.

According to investigators, Aslan Gagiev's grouping committed 40 murders in North Ossetia, Moscow and Moscow Region. On September 2, the court in Rostov-on-Don sentenced members of the grouping to long terms in prison. Gagiev was arrested in Vienna in January 2015.

The above Vienna court has for the third time satisfied the request of the Russia's GPO to extradite Aslan Gagiev. However, the Viennese first and second instance courts demanded new guarantees for Gagiev, in particular, access of diplomats to him and his due custody conditions, the "Kommersant" reports today.

The GPO has guaranteed protection of Gagiev's rights; and the Austrian authorities were informed about it.

The court has upheld the Russia's request to extradite Gagiev; but Gagiev himself denied his voluntary extradition; and his defence filed a complaint with the court of appeal. The judgment on Gagiev, according to preliminary information, will be made by the end of this year. It is possible that during the remaining time Aslan Gagiev may simply leave the territory of Austria, the "Kommersant" adds.
