Court closes Imam Baichorov's case

Kurman-Ali Baichorov, the Imam of Kislovodsk, sentenced on the charge of drug possession, has served sufficient sentence, and his case is closed. This was announced by the Stavropol Regional Court.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that Kurman-Ali Baichorov was detained in October 2013. He pleaded not guilty and said that the drugs were planted to him by law enforcers. In January 2015, the court sentenced the Imam to 3.5 years of imprisonment; however, in February 2016, the case was sent for reconsideration. In June, it was returned for reconsideration in the court of appeal, i.e., the Stavropol Regional Court.

The court has pronounced the decision to close the Imam's case, since the sentence has been served. Earlier, the court commuted the sentence to a year and three months of imprisonment.

Let us remind you that supporters of Kurman-Ali Baichorov associated the Imam's prosecution with his position on the ban on construction of mosques in Kislovodsk.
